bOK is a company by a group of entrepreneurs and students from Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto,
and New York. The idea of bOK started when Aydin Mirzaee was a student at the University of Ottawa: "I had a cell phone with about 100 day time minutes. The cell phone was convenient; but, I could'nt really use it as much as I wanted. If I talked over my 100 minutes, I'd get charged about 30 cents a minute. If I called my parents in New York, I'd get charged 35 cents a minute. I needed a better solution."

Aydin went on to discuss the problem with his brother Amin, and together, they conceived the idea of bOK. bOK, as a platform, was then developed by Amin Mirzaee, Samuel Cormier-Iijima, and Pooya Eslamdoust. When bOK was first born, it was a tool for the founders to use for themselves. Except, the word got out, and almost overnight 150 people were using bOK from all over North America. When the founders learned of this interest, they decided to make bOK available to the public. Ever since, it has been a fun and rewarding roller coaster ride.
